Dental Fillings
A dental filling is a kind of “patch” that is used to fill in a tooth after the dentist gently removes the decay. Fillings can be made from a variety of materials, including composites that are colored to match your natural teeth shade. We’ll discuss the material to be used for your filling with you prior to the treatment so you can make sure it’s what you need and desire.
At Safari Dentistry and Implants we do not use amalgam fillings. Amalgam fillings are the “old fashioned” kind that is silver in color. The material itself is a blend of metals and contains mercury that binds these metal powders together. We don’t believe in using these for our patients, so our office is amalgam mercury-free. We replace any old amalgam fillings that need to be replaced with composite tooth colored fillings if they are small and ceramic Inlay and onlays if they are larger.
Fillings are a good repair for teeth, and they can help restore them to proper function as well as improve their appearance. Teeth that have too much decay for a filling may require a different approach. We’ll evaluate each tooth in question and come up with a treatment plan based on what’s best and lasts longer for your tooth. Contact us today for an exam to see if any of your teeth may need fillings, or to change out an old mercury filling.
Dental Bonding Work
Think of bonding as a “fill” material that is used to reconstruct the shape of a tooth. Bonding is often used when a tooth has a small decay or a chip, or otherwise malformed, to help restore it to a more natural looking appearance. It can be used to change the shape of a tooth, lengthen them, and also to change the color. Dr. Safari is able to perform a wide range of bonding techniques that will help restore your smile.
Bonding is popular because in some instances not always is a more economical cosmetic treatment than other methods such as Veneers. That said, it tends to be less stain resistant or as long-lasting as other treatments, such as Veneers and crowns. At Safari Dentistry and Implants we are happy to help you evaluate the choices available to you so you can decide on the best course of action. Many people select bonding to help enhance their smile for minor defects. Contact our office today to schedule a consultation where we can explain this treatment and answer any questions you may have about what is involved.
